Batman (1966): Smack in the Middle

Join Shawn and Scott as they breakdown and review "Smack in the Middle", the second episode of the iconic 1966 series "Batman"! Listen as they detail this story, which continues from the Batman pilot (covered in last week's episode of the podcast) in which the dastardly Riddler hatches a plot to separate the Dynamic Duo, kidnap Robin, and steal a small country's priceless treasure. They'll talk about Burt Ward's difficult performance, attempting to portray Jill St. John's character, Molly, disguised as his character, Robin. They'll also talk about the only on-screen death to ever occur on the show, why Batman and Robin needlessly caused millions of dollars worth of damage, and the stupidity of Batman falling love with a girl he only talked to for three minutes...oh, and also tried to kill him! From Batmobile chases and "La-zar" beams to well labeled instrumentation and jewel-encrusted woolly mammoths stuffed with postage stamps, not to mention the brilliance of Adam West and Frank Gorshin, this episode has it all! Plus, they rank the cinematic Batmen! So spray some "Can A" in your face, turn off the detect-a-scope, and conclude this campy bat-venture along with us! Na-na na-na na-na na-na na Batman!

And don't miss our breakdown of the first part of this story, "Hi Diddle Riddle" in last week's episode! (It'll help this episode make a little more sense!)

Batman (1966): Hi Diddle Riddle

Join Shawn and Scott as they breakdown and review "Hi Diddle Riddle", the pilot episode of the iconic 1966 series "Batman"! Listen as they discuss the brilliance of Adam West, playing Batman as a serious detective despite the show's lighthearted campiness. They'll also discuss Batman and Robin's first adversary of the series, The Riddler, played masterfully by the great Frank Gorshin. From The Riddler's near-impossible (but always quickly solved) riddles and Batman's penchant for labeling everything, to interesting facts about the cast and two rare mentions of the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents, they discuss it all, and much, much more!!! Oh, and if that wasn't enough...the "Batusi" also makes an appearance! So sit back with some fresh-squeezed orange juice, disconnect the red telephone, and speed into Gotham along with us! Na-na na-na na-na na-na na Batman!

And don't worry! We won't leave you hanging! Look out for our episode about part two of the story, "Smack in the Middle": Same Bat-time, Same Bat-podcast!

Wonder Woman (Trailer) and Justice League (Trailer)

Join Shawn and Scott as they breakdown and review the new trailers for the fourth and fifth installments of the DC Extended Universe: "Wonder Woman" and "Justice League"! Listen as they review these highly anticipated trailers that premiered at San Diego Comic Con and discuss every little detail! From the "Wonder Woman" trailer, they'll discuss Gal Gadot's portrayal of the immortal demigoddess Diana, and her first adventure away from the land of Themyscira in the early 20th century. They'll talk about the look of this version of the Wonder Woman costume, as well as Chris Pine's character, Steve Trevor, and his importance to the Wonder Woman franchise. From "Justice League", they'll discuss the attempts by Bruce Wayne to recruit Jason Momoa's intimidating Aquaman and Ezra Miller's introverted Flash to aid him in preparing for an extraterrestrial threat. They'll also talk about the Apokoliptian villain Steppenwolf and the Motherboxes he'll be seeking on Earth. Plus, some rumors, a little bit of Arrowverse talk, and Shawn has some strong opinions of the "Star Trek: Discovery" teaser. So much to cover, so many heroes, may the Source be with you!

Challenge of the Super Friends: Wanted: The Super Friends

Join Shawn and Scott as they have a blast picking apart every hilarious logical flaw in the first episode of Hanna-Barbera's third adaptation of the Justice League of America comic books: 1978's "Challenge of the Super Friends"! Listen as they give you the rundown of the Super Friends team, including the three heroes created just for the cartoon. They'll tell you why the Legion of Doom is the most inconsiderate bunch of house guests, why Lex Luthor should've known that Clark Kent is Superman within the first few minutes of the series, why Hawkman's other power is opening storage compartments, how the show's creators tried to jump on the Star Wars bandwagon, and much, much more! Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and the Flash? All in one place? How could it go wrong? Well...many ways, apparently. But it's a ton a fun! So fire up the ol' dream machine for a while and enjoy the show! Best yet to come!

Join Lily, Scott, and special guest Kevin (AKA K1 of the movie riffing group One Wall Cinema) as they review some notable trailers and sneak peeks from San Diego Comic Con 2015! Including some big 2016 summer movies, upcoming TV shows, web series, and, of course, the latest on Star Wars. What's with the look of Apocalypse? Does Daisy Ridley play Han Solo's daughter? Is anyone really asking where the Heroes went? Do we have to watch Batman's parents die again? How will Ryan Reynolds' two Deadpools differ? Who should play Impossible Man in a Fantastic Four sequel? All of these questions are discussed, and many, many more! So dress up as your favorite obscure comic book character and enjoy the show...excelsior!

Discussed in this episode: Danger Mouse, Heroes Reborn, Fantastic Four, Con Man, Suicide Squad, X-Men: Apocalypse, Deadpool, Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens, and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Arrow: Pilot

Join Lily, Shawn, and Scott as they enter the dark and brooding world of everybody's favorite hooded archer: Arrow! Listen as they take you through the history of the Green Arrow in comics, discuss why almost everybody in this show is a terrible person, and explain why this is just The CW's grittty mix of Batman, Robin Hood and My Name is Earl, with a little Hamlet and Harry and the Hendersons thrown in. (Listen and you'll get it.) And, as a bonus, Lily opens a present given to her by Shawn and Scott.

(Disclaimer: There are some very minor Arrow season 1 spoilers. Don't worry, they're brief and you'll know when they're coming.)

Lookwell

Join Lily, Scott, and Shawn as they take a look back at a cult classic from 1991. A time when a young SNL writer named Conan O'Brien joined forces with Robert Smigel to write a pilot starring Adam West as a clueless former TV detective named Lookwell. Listen as they discuss the brilliance of Adam West, draw parallels to Batman from the 1960's, speculate what a full season would be like, and even try out a Lookwell line reading of their own. Sit down, grab a Firm Pop and enjoy!
