COMMENTARY: Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope
Monday Sep 28, 2015
Monday Sep 28, 2015
Join Scott and special guest, Star Wars expert Paul as they travel a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. Where merchandising was scant and the "clone wars" were nothing but a couple of throwaway lines. When one stormtrooper was tall enough to accidentally hit his head entering a room because he wasn't a genetic copy of Jango Fett. When "the Force" was just "the Force", and not something that could be cleared up with penicillin. That's right, they started at the true beginning and watched "Star Wars"! (Or "Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope") Listen as they give you a ton of information you may have never heard before and details you may have missed. They'll tell you what's been changed, who's who, and why this space epic is truly one of the greatest film of all time. (Oh, and Paul will tell you why R5-D4 might me the most important character in the trilogy...allegedly.)
It's a regular episode, but as an added bonus, it also syncs up as a commentary for the movie! So, if you can, queue up your copy of the movie and watch along with us!

COMMENTARY: Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Monday Sep 21, 2015
Monday Sep 21, 2015
Join Scott and special guest, Star Wars expert Paul as they travel down a painful road, delve deep into a dark memory from their childhoods, and watch George Lucas' first installment of the Star Wars prequels: the infamous "Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace"! Listen as they discuss some of the terrible CGI, the crazy names and backstories for the many background characters, and make a somewhat modest defense for Jake Lloyd. (Hey, he was just a kid.) They'll point out cameos you may have missed, talk about "Episode I Racer" for Nintendo 64, and reminisce about falling for the hype and buying merchandise for the movie. All in real time as they watch the movie!!! Oh, and a "mystery guest" also calls in!
It's a regular episode, but as an added bonus, it also syncs up with the movie! So, if you can, pop in your copy of the movie and listen along, otherwise just listen and enjoy our misery!

Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003): Chapters 1-20
Monday Aug 31, 2015
Monday Aug 31, 2015
Join Scott and special guest, Star Wars expert Paul, as they review the first two seasons of what just might be the best thing to come out of the Star Wars prequels: The 2003 Clone Wars cartoon series! Listen as they discuss the history of the Clone Wars, from a throwaway line delivered by Mark Hamill in 1977's Star Wars to George Lucas' 2002 CGI monstrosity Attack of the Clones to Genndy Tartakovsky's 2003 animated masterpiece and beyond. Sure, they'll gripe about the prequels, but they'll also tell you what makes this animated "microseries" so special, and why it deserves your notice. The listener is the heart of the podcast!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Pilot
Tuesday Jul 28, 2015
Tuesday Jul 28, 2015
Join Lily and Scott as they review the first episode of ABC's hit show about a team of special agents, specially formed to investigate the strange happenings of the Marvel universe: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.! Listen as they discuss the history of one of comics' clunkiest acronyms, why comic book realities don't always translate well to live-action, why DC should have tied their shows to their cinematic universe, and why the resumption of the Mike Peterson storyline in episode 10, makes this show worth watching. Hey, have you heard about Tahiti? It's a special place.

X-Men: Days of Future Past
Saturday Jun 20, 2015
Saturday Jun 20, 2015
Join Scott as he delves deep into the bleak dystopian future of the classic X-Men story: Days of Future Past! Listen as he compares and contrasts its original telling in the Uncanny X-Men comic books, the loose adaptation of the animated series Wolverine and the X-Men and the film X-Men: Days of Future Past, with an especially close look at the three episode arc from Fox's X-Men the animated series. What commonalities do these versions share? Why does Apocalypse always seem to pop up in these adaptations? Is this story just a Terminator rip-off? All these questions are answered and more! Plus an "interview" with "Stan Lee"! So transfer your mind elsewhere for a little while and enjoy the show!

BONUS EPISODE: Danger 5
Thursday Jun 04, 2015
Thursday Jun 04, 2015
Join Lily, Shawn, Scott, and special guest Hamish as they sit down for a bonus episode of Hitting Play to discuss Australian TV and films, especially the great series Danger 5. Listen to Hamish's interesting tale of how his funny and creative Danger 5-themed Vines caught the attention of the show's creators, and how his fandom ultimately earned him an invite to meet the cast and crew and appear in an episode!
He'll also help the crew properly pronounce Canberra, accidentally create a concept for an Australian Michael Bay film, and compare the current state of television in Australia and the U.S. So sit back with a hot prawn cocktail, pour yourself a tomato ketchup daiquiri, and enjoy the show!

Atari: Game Over
Tuesday May 19, 2015
Tuesday May 19, 2015
Join Lily, Shawn, and Scott as they review Atari: Game Over, the first documentary in Xbox Live's Signal to Noise series. Listen as they discuss the rise and fall of Atari Inc., the colossal commercial failure of E.T. The Game, the urban legend of the burial of millions of unsold E.T. The Game cartridges in a New Mexico landfill, and the years of undeserved blame placed on game designer Howard Scott Warshaw. From the Atari 2600 to Game Genie to Raspberry Pis to why having Steven Spielberg attached to your project may not necessarily be a good thing, they talk about it all!(Also Scott surprises the crew with a gift to commemorate the episode.) Hopefully this is one to phone home about!
