Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp: Lance of Arabia/The Doctor Goes A.P.E.
Monday Apr 18, 2016
Monday Apr 18, 2016
Join Scott and Steve as they take a look back at a very peculiar Saturday morning live-action kids show, the 70s chimpanzee spy comedy "Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp"! Listen as they break down the two stories "Lance of Arabia" and "The Doctor goes A.P.E.". They'll discuss many crazy behind the scenes details about the show, revealed by its Emmy winning (not for this) creators Stan Burns and Mike Marmer in the great documentary short "I Created Lancelot Link". From television innovations and million dollar budgets to castrations and maulings, this show truly had it all. They'll also talk about the struggles the show had with the main chimp actors, Torgo and Debbie, including ordering custom clothing and shoes, and teaching them how behave like humans as voice actors ad-libbed over them. There's plenty of old jokes, terrible stereotypes, tired sequences, chimpanzees playing instruments and gruesome tales of primate revenge. And, oh yeah, if that wasn't enough, a hawk rides a chimp, riding a camel! Crazy. So have a banana, and listen to us laugh at one of the strangest shows in television history.

Sealab 2021: I, Robot
Tuesday Mar 01, 2016
Tuesday Mar 01, 2016
Join Scott as he takes a trip under the sea and reviews "I, Robot", a hilarious episode of the Adult Swim cartoon hit Sealab 2021! Listen as he details some of the craziest, and nonsensical conversations ever to take place on television. (There's a lot of talk about robot bodies!) He'll talk about the show's creators, Adam Reid and Matt Thompson, and how their discovery of an old tape in 1995 led them to the creation of this show, then Frisky Dingo, then Archer. Also mentioned is the great artist Alex Toth, who not only did art and design for the original series that this was based on, Sealab 2020, but also Space Ghost, Birdman, and many old Hanna Barbara cartoons that were given new life on Adult Swim. Scott also talks about Alex Toth's work on one key issue of X-Men, and how if it wasn't for the intervention of another comics legend, a certain classic character would've ended up looking like a weird Space Ghost villain. And much more! So put on your scuba gear, turn off your chainsaw hands, and enjoy the show! (Not you, Pod 6, you jerks!)

Join Scott, Kevin, and Jaron, as they welcome to the show a very special guest: Veronica Fish! Veronica is a super talented comic book artist whose work can be seen in (among other titles) "Archie" (Vol. 2) written by Mark Waid and Marvel Comics' "Howard the Duck" relaunch written by Chip Zdarsky! Listen as Veronica recounts the series of events that quickly led to her getting to draw some of comics' most beloved characters, how she feels about working with some of the best writers in comics today, and what is actually involved for an artist in turning script pages into completed pages in a limited amount of time. They'll also talk about their experiences with the Archie-verse, Veronica's awesome paintings, and their favorite episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000. This episode is really fun and interesting, so get yourself an expensive cup of hot chocolate, sit back, and learn how your favorite comics are made!
Look for Veronica's art in issues #5 and #6 of "Archie" (Vol. 2) and issue #2 of "Howard the Duck" (Vol. 6) and Look for her variant covers for issue #2 of "Jughead" (Vol. 2) and issue #2 of "Howard the Duck" (Vol. 6)! And more in the future!

Challenge of the Super Friends: Wanted: The Super Friends
Monday Oct 12, 2015
Monday Oct 12, 2015
Join Shawn and Scott as they have a blast picking apart every hilarious logical flaw in the first episode of Hanna-Barbera's third adaptation of the Justice League of America comic books: 1978's "Challenge of the Super Friends"! Listen as they give you the rundown of the Super Friends team, including the three heroes created just for the cartoon. They'll tell you why the Legion of Doom is the most inconsiderate bunch of house guests, why Lex Luthor should've known that Clark Kent is Superman within the first few minutes of the series, why Hawkman's other power is opening storage compartments, how the show's creators tried to jump on the Star Wars bandwagon, and much, much more! Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and the Flash? All in one place? How could it go wrong? Well...many ways, apparently. But it's a ton a fun! So fire up the ol' dream machine for a while and enjoy the show! Best yet to come!

X-Men (1989): Pryde of the X-Men
Saturday Feb 21, 2015
Saturday Feb 21, 2015
Join Shawn and Scott as they discuss an 80's Saturday morning gem: The rarely seen (or heard of) animated X-Men pilot for NBC! Listen as Scott gives a condensed history of the X-Men in animation, Shawn addresses recent news of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and both recount a Spider-Man voter registration PSA with great confusion. Why does Wolverine speak with an Australian accent? (Yes, really.) Why aren't most of the X-Men dead at the end of this episode? What's up with Kitty Pryde's parents? These questions, and more, get tackled like a powered-up Magneto! We tried like thunder, and now this episode is coming your way!
