Tuesday Jun 07, 2016
Tuesday Jun 07, 2016
Join Shawn, Scott, and special guest Hamish, as they breakdown "Spaghetti Pig Out" a popular episode of the Australian children's television classic "Round The Twist"! Listen as they discuss the background of this show, from a series of short story books by author Paul Jennings to four seasons over eleven years on Australian television. They'll talk at length about the lighthouse-dwelling Twist family, outlandish moments from the series that could never be in an American made TV show, as well as the logistics and dangers of using a remote that can control reality. And of course they'll also discuss a bunch of differences between Australian and American culture. This one's a ton of fun, so finish your spaghetti, hit play on your remote, and enjoy the show!

X-Men (1992): Come the Apocalypse
Wednesday Jun 01, 2016
Wednesday Jun 01, 2016
Join Scott and Hamish as they delve deep into the character of Apocalypse and break down the classic episode of the X-Men 1992 animated series entitled "Come the Apocalypse"! Listen as they discuss Apocalypse from his beginnings as Louise Simonson's leader of the "Alliance of Evil" in X-Factor #5 to his feature film debut in "X-Men: Apocalypse". They'll also review his four horsemen in their original forms, including the shocking transformation of Angel to Archangel in this episode, as well as the comic books. They'll also talk about the incredible anime intro that only aired in Japan (plus with some closing credits elsewhere), the ToyBiz line of action figures that was sometimes tied to the show, and a whole bunch of funny moments from the cartoon. And if that wasn't enough, Scott also plays a clip of an X-Men skit he recorded as a little kid. So put on your yellow spandex, leave Morph behind, and enjoy the show!

Galactica 1980: Galactica Discovers Earth
Tuesday May 24, 2016
Tuesday May 24, 2016
Join Scott and Steve as they discuss the premiere episode of the short-lived reboot of the Battlestar Galactica franchise: "Galactica 1980"! Listen as they delve deep into the sordid details of this disastrous production, from over-inflated budgets and a writing staff rooting for the show's cancellation to dislike of child actors and a screenwriter who stayed thousands of miles away from the set. They'll also talk about the terrible three-episode story arc involving time warps, World War II, and a very distasteful flying motorcycle scene. Can you believe this thing was nominated for a primetime Emmy?! It was...for outstanding costume design! (That's right, the brown leather jackets were the true talent here.) So turn your vipers invisible, secure your language-tron translators, and laugh at this terrible show with us!

They'll also discuss the great performances by Ellie Kemper, Titus Burgess, and Carol Kane, as well as the masterful joke writing of creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, and so much more! (Including some silverfish talk.) So shake off the dead silverfish, sit back with a deep dish ham/clam, and enjoy the show!

Tom Goes to the Mayor: Glass Eyes
Tuesday May 10, 2016
Tuesday May 10, 2016
Join Scott, and um, a familiar guest, as they review "Glass Eyes", a hilarious episode of the Adult Swim animated cult hit, created by Tim and Eric: "Tom Goes To the Mayor"! Listen as they discuss how Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim mailed copies of their funny videos to their comedic idols, and how one recipient gave them their big break. They'll also talk about the original pitch for the show, why this episode had to be rewritten numerous times, and the complicated absurdity of this episode, which required Tim and Eric to make a chart in their office. From community spirit, shopping, and food, to barrel goats, archery, and glass eyes, this one has it all. So sit back with a hoogie, protect your eyes, and enjoy the show!

Angie Tribeca: Pilot
Tuesday May 03, 2016
Tuesday May 03, 2016
Join Scott and his special guests, husband and wife team, Kevin and Sarah, as they review the pilot episode of the hilarious police procedural spoof, "Angie Tribeca", created by another husband and wife team, Steve Carell and Nancy Walls. Listen as they discuss the shows' incredible joke density, from visual gags you would have missed, to the brilliant acting of Rashida Jones (in the title role of Angie Tribeca) and her 237th partner J. Geils, played by Hayes MacArthur. They'll also talk about the many celebrity guests and cameos that appear throughout season one, such as Rashida Jones' real life father Quincy Jones, Bill Murray, Keegan-Michael Key, and even a very funny guest appearance by the actual mayor of Los Angeles playing a security guard for the mayor of Los Angeles. There's so much to cover and not enough space to do it in the description, so with all due respect, listen to this episode!

Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp: Lance of Arabia/The Doctor Goes A.P.E.
Monday Apr 18, 2016
Monday Apr 18, 2016
Join Scott and Steve as they take a look back at a very peculiar Saturday morning live-action kids show, the 70s chimpanzee spy comedy "Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp"! Listen as they break down the two stories "Lance of Arabia" and "The Doctor goes A.P.E.". They'll discuss many crazy behind the scenes details about the show, revealed by its Emmy winning (not for this) creators Stan Burns and Mike Marmer in the great documentary short "I Created Lancelot Link". From television innovations and million dollar budgets to castrations and maulings, this show truly had it all. They'll also talk about the struggles the show had with the main chimp actors, Torgo and Debbie, including ordering custom clothing and shoes, and teaching them how behave like humans as voice actors ad-libbed over them. There's plenty of old jokes, terrible stereotypes, tired sequences, chimpanzees playing instruments and gruesome tales of primate revenge. And, oh yeah, if that wasn't enough, a hawk rides a chimp, riding a camel! Crazy. So have a banana, and listen to us laugh at one of the strangest shows in television history.

Firefly: Serenity
Wednesday Mar 16, 2016
Wednesday Mar 16, 2016
Join Shawn and Scott as they breakdown "Serenity", not the feature film, but the true pilot for the cult sci-fi series that was canceled much to soon: "Firefly". Listen as they discuss what made this different from other works of science fiction, why FOX actually aired the pilot episode last, the unique fusion of American and Chinese cultures found throughout the series, and much more! They'll also talk about the great characters, the parallels that can be drawn to the American Old West, the attention to detail in the show's look, the excellent writing by creator Joss Whedon, and why lawn chair technology evidently hasn't changed in 500 years. So sit back, gnaw on a nutritional immunization bar and enjoy this episode like a strawberry. Ooh grandpa!

Sealab 2021: I, Robot
Tuesday Mar 01, 2016
Tuesday Mar 01, 2016
Join Scott as he takes a trip under the sea and reviews "I, Robot", a hilarious episode of the Adult Swim cartoon hit Sealab 2021! Listen as he details some of the craziest, and nonsensical conversations ever to take place on television. (There's a lot of talk about robot bodies!) He'll talk about the show's creators, Adam Reid and Matt Thompson, and how their discovery of an old tape in 1995 led them to the creation of this show, then Frisky Dingo, then Archer. Also mentioned is the great artist Alex Toth, who not only did art and design for the original series that this was based on, Sealab 2020, but also Space Ghost, Birdman, and many old Hanna Barbara cartoons that were given new life on Adult Swim. Scott also talks about Alex Toth's work on one key issue of X-Men, and how if it wasn't for the intervention of another comics legend, a certain classic character would've ended up looking like a weird Space Ghost villain. And much more! So put on your scuba gear, turn off your chainsaw hands, and enjoy the show! (Not you, Pod 6, you jerks!)
